Meme: Book Glutton

from Booking Through Thursday:

Are your eyes bigger than your book belly? Do you have a habit of buying up books far quicker than you could possibly read them? Have you had to curb your book buying habits until you can catch up with yourself? Or are you a controlled buyer, only purchasing books when you have run out of things to read?

Of course I'm a book glutton! I simply can't resist. The last time I remember having actually read everything on my shelves was back in high school. Usually I have more books on hand than I can catch up to and still acquire more, somehow. Currently (if my Library Thing tags are up to date) I have about 125 books sitting in the bedroom that haven't been read yet. The only way I make any inroads on the piles is due to the fact that if a book just isn't interesting me, I have no qualms about clearing it off my shelf. So out of those 125, I probably won't like -and won't finish- maybe a third of them. And just yesterday I was thinking it's about time to go to that thrift store nearby where I can get thirty books for four dollars.... wouldn't you?

  2. I'm the same way. I have plenty of books but can't resist buying more.

I do the same thing. If a book gets less than a four, I get rid of it. No need to have a book I didn't completely enjoy taking up room on my shelves.

As for visiting the thrift store, I say go for it. The local thrift store only has romance novels, so I rarely visit.

  4. I cleverly don't live near any good used bookstores. If I did they would take over my life. But I am still very jealous of people who are close to good thrift stores for books.

  5. There's a thrift store near my office that's like the one you describe ... paperbacks are .35 and it is pure heaven.

  6. I love that reaction - "Of course I'm a book glutton!" Me, too! What a silly question, right? But I'd be in real trouble if I had a store nearby where I could get thirty books for four bucks! My TBR stack would have to get an apartment of its own.

  7. I guess I'm lucky they have that fill-a-shopping-basket-for-a-few-bucks sale only once in a while, otherwise I'd be swimming in books!

  8. I'm a book glutton since moving here. I brought 5 books with me and quickly ran out of reading material. What? No libraries nearby with books in English? I started buying 2-3 a week, whining on bookcrossing, etc. Now I have a lovely backlog...it's like money in the bank, stored food, extra blankets.

  9. 30 books for $4? Are you serious? No wonder you have so many waiting to be read!

I'm a glutton, when I can afford to be. I hate running out of things to read.

  11. I can still remember when I was buying/reading in even intervals. It was before I discovered our annual library sale and came home with two boxes of books. It's been terribly downhill since then. :) I'm trying to be better about getting rid of the ones that I have no interesting in reading, though. 30 books for $4!! Sounds like a steal!
