prevention measures

I guess it was inevitable- I've had to turn on comment moderation because my blog has recently attracted spam. I had to erase a lot of junk from the comment section. Unfortunately when I re-visited my blog a few hours later, I noticed some legitimate comments from the past weeks' worth of posts have also vanished. I am not sure how that happened and I apologize to my readers, because I really do like hearing from you!

  1. Ugh, sorry you've had to deal with this.

  2. Spammers are a real problem. I have one who insists on posting the same link over and over again despite that I've deleted his "comments" consistently for the last three months. Like you, I've inadvertently deleted a legitimate comment or two in my haste to empty the trash. The funny thing is that the spam is so obvious that I can't imagine anyone ever actually clicking on the included links.

  3. Yeah. I thought I was being careful to only delete the problematic comments, but I admit I did it rather quickly, anxious to get rid of the offending material before more people saw it. Should have been more careful. Nobody's going to fall for those links anyway! or think that I sanctioned them being there!

  4. They're a menace quite frankly, I was targeted by them a few months ago and had to turn on comment moderation. You might think they could find something better to do to pass the time.

  5. Spammers are the worst! I'd say hopefully they'll forget you exist, but I'm sure it's all just automated bots leaving the comments.

  6. Probably automated, yeah. They certainly follow a pattern, and then it tends to be the exact same comment repeated dozens of times across several posts. Blah.
